"Alexandria Again and Again" brings together Yousra and Hussein Fahmy once again in El Gouna

Actress Yousra was keen to appear alongside actor Hussein Fahmy on the red carpet at the El Gouna Film Festival, during the special screening of "Alexandria Again and Again," which is being shown in commemoration of the late director Youssef Chahine.

The red carpet witnessed a remarkable presence of art stars, including Elham Shaheen, Rogina, Yousra El Lozy, and Laila Elwi, who were keen to share in this special moment that combined the magic of cinema with the fragrance of history.

Youssef Chahine's Centenary: A Different Celebration at El Gouna Film Festival

This year, El Gouna Film Festival celebrates the centenary of the birth of one of the most important directors in the history of Arab cinema, Youssef Chahine, whose legacy transcended time and space. The tribute came in an exceptional way, reviving the spirit of his films and his intellectual audacity through the screening of "Alexandria Again and Again," along with the organization of a large art exhibition entitled "Bab El Hadid."

"Bab Al-Hadid" is an exhibition that redefines cinema and space.

The "Bab Al-Hadid" exhibition is based on the idea of transforming cinema viewing into an interactive visual and spatial experience. Instead of being a mere spectator, the visitor becomes part of the story, experiencing it from within, amidst designs that blend heritage and modernity, and audio-visual materials that reinterpret Shaheen's works in an innovative way.

The exhibition is the result of a collaboration between director and producer Marianne Khoury, the festival's artistic director, and architect Sherine Farghal, with support from Misr International Films and the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development.

The exhibition offers visitors a unique sensory experience, visually and spiritually inspired by the film "Bab El Hadid," and brings together scenes from Chahine's filmography to create a new narrative texture. You emerge from it as if the legendary director is sitting beside you, taking you on a journey into his memory, where his films transform into a space pulsating with light and emotion.

"Alexandria Again and Again"... Shaheen's return to the big screen

The festival chose to screen "Alexandria Again and Again," the third part of Chahine's autobiographical series, which was considered a turning point in the history of Arab cinema, after he declared through it that his life deserved to be told.

Alongside the film, four works by Arab directors influenced by Chahine's boldness and philosophical vision are being screened, drawing inspiration from his notion that biography is not merely a personal story, but rather a resistance against oblivion, and that storytelling itself is an act of survival.
