Dubai Police launch "Watch Your Words" campaign to combat cyberbullying

The Dubai Police General Command announced the launch of a joint awareness campaign to warn against the dangers of cyberbullying, as part of its ongoing efforts to reduce cybercrime rates and promote digital awareness among all segments of Emirati society.

Campaign message and legal penalties Under the slogan "Watch your words before you post… Think before you post," the campaign's main message is to warn users that insulting or defaming people on social media is a fully-fledged crime punishable by law with imprisonment and a fine of up to 500,000 dirhams.

Dubai Police confirms that everything published online is considered digital evidence that subjects its owner to direct legal accountability under the law against rumors and cybercrimes.

Strategic partnership for community security This initiative comes as part of an integrated national strategy to enhance community security, as Dubai Police is keen to activate partnerships with the public and private sectors to maintain the UAE’s global reputation as a safe digital space.

The police have called on all relevant parties to contribute to disseminating these awareness materials among their employees and clients, stressing that protecting the social fabric is a shared responsibility that begins with an individual's awareness of their words.
