Duraid Lahham: Israel is an existing state and its removal is a fantasy

Artist Duraid Lahham expressed his opinion on what is always said that the former Syrian regime was fighting Israel.

Duraid Lahham: These are statements for media consumption.

Lahham said in his interview with Al Jazeera's "Al Masa'iyah": "These statements are for local consumption only. There was no real war with Israel, and everything that was said was just talk for media consumption."

Welding: Removing Israel from the Imagination

Lahham added: "I am not in favor of normalization at all, but perhaps my great-grandchildren may one day adopt this option. Israel is an established entity that is recognized globally, and talk about removing it is just talk of regurgitation and fantasy."

As for his opinion on Ahmed Al-Sharaa’s statements that there is no energy to confront Israel, Lahham said: “I believe that the man was honest. Syria, in its current situation, is not prepared for such a confrontation.”

The word "Arab nation" is a lie

Commenting on the role of the Arabs in what is happening in Gaza and the silence towards what Israel is doing, Lahham said: “The term ‘Arab nation’ is just a historical lie. If there was a real and cohesive Arab nation from the ocean to the Gulf, we would not have seen what is happening in Gaza or southern Lebanon.”

Criticism of Assad regime symbols

Duraid Lahham directed harsh criticism at the symbols of the Assad regime, describing them as “one-sided” who do not accept other opinions. He also said that the artistic community was afraid of censorship during the rule of the Assad family, and he spoke about banning a sentence from an artistic work that included a comparison to animals, and the reason for that was Basil Assad’s love for horses and the impermissibility of criticizing him.

Duraid Lahham: May God not forgive you, Bashar

Regarding Bashar al-Assad’s escape, Lahham said: “If he did not commit anything against humanity, why would he escape? He knows that he committed many atrocities against the Syrian people.” He sent a message to al-Assad saying: “May God not forgive you for what you did to the Syrian people.”
