French President Emmanuel Macron commented on a video showing him being slapped in the face by his wife, Brigitte, upon their arrival in Vietnam.

"We were arguing, we were joking... we were fighting and joking, and we were surprised to see it turn into a global catastrophe," he said in press statements, denying the existence of any "family dispute."

"It's a bit crazy, people need to calm down," Macron added , stressing that "the videos are true, but they are being prepared to say a lot of nonsense."

"I see a lot of crazy people spending their days explaining things," he continued. When asked about the identity of the people who promote such stories, he said it was "always the same networks" that were "tracked down."

The French president concluded: "The Russians are good allies, and the extremists are proxies. There are also editors and political commentators who are hostile to me. They are crazy. We have a lot of crazy people in the system."
