The late artist loved singing from an early age. His beginnings were in his city, Basra, where he sang on its theaters while he was still a student. But his beginning was in the military theater in 1971, where he dazzled artists, musicians and musicians with his exceptional talent, so they advised him to go to the radio.

The song "Just Talk" by the composer Jaafar Al-Khafaf was an important point in his career, but his song "One Time and One Time" had a great presence in the singing scene, and he formed with the able composer Jaafar Al-Khafaf an artistic duet that pushed the Iraqi song steps forward.

In his early years, he was able to form a duet with the composer Jaafar Al-Khafaf, and during that period they presented the song “Just Kalam”, the song “An Al-Awn” and the song “More and More”, which achieved a wide presence during that period.

The song "It's Time" written by Nizar Jawad and composed by Jaafar Al-Khaffaf in the mid-eighties won the competition for the best Iraqi song in 1986. The song had been memorized by Riyad the day before the competition after he recorded it with the voice of its composer, Jaafar Al-Khaffaf, who was stunned by Riyad's performance, as he sang it better. much.

The artist Kazem El Saher was supposed to compose a group of songs for Riyad after he expressed his great admiration for his voice, but the work did not come to light due to the death of the artist Riyad Ahmed in March 1997 after a heart attack.
