In a related context, amidst the state of tension, Jamila puts her son Abdel Wahab in direct confrontation with his wife, confirming her absolute rejection of the idea of divorce demanded by his uncle.

She addresses him harshly, saying: Your uncle wants you to divorce his daughter, but I will not allow that. You are a man and you have to bear responsibility. What will people say if you divorce her from the first day? If you do not care about her reputation, I am her aunt and I care about her, and my inheritance and my brother's inheritance cannot go to someone else and she will not allow that no matter what it costs her.
