He was orphaned when his father died before he reached the age of eight. He memorized the Holy Quran at a young age in 1373 AH under the tutelage of Sheikh Muhammad bin Sinan, and progressed in his pursuit of knowledge until he became one of the most prominent scholars in the Kingdom. He descends from the Al Mushrif family, a descendant of Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab. </p><figure class="image image_resized" style="width:75%;"><img style="aspect-ratio:1000/563;" src="https://cdn.sbisiali.com/news/images/80a0ef9c-cff3-4801-8637-668271696669.jpeg" ></figure><h2 style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> <span style="color:hsl(187, 48%, 51%);">Positions and responsibilities</span></h2><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> It is worth noting that he began his career as a teacher at the Imam Al-Da'wah Scientific Institute in 1384 AH, and then assumed the position of imam and preacher at the Sheikh Muhammad bin Ibrahim Mosque in Riyadh in 1389 AH.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> He continued his academic career as a professor at the College of Sharia until he was appointed Imam and preacher at the Namirah Mosque in Arafat in 1402 AH. He continued delivering the Arafat sermon for 35 consecutive years (1982–2015), becoming the longest-serving preacher to stand on the Arafat pulpit in Muslim history.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> In 1407 AH, he joined the Council of Senior Scholars, and then was appointed a full-time member of the Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta in 1412 AH. </p><figure class="image image_resized" style="width:75%;"><img style="aspect-ratio:779/439;" src="https://cdn.sbisiali.com/news/images/1d0e7f14-ec12-4f46-9927-d632b6f1f879.jpeg" ></figure><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> In Shawwal 1412 AH, he became an imam and preacher at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"> In 1416 AH, a royal decree was issued appointing him as Deputy Grand Mufti, before he was appointed on 29 Muharram 1420 AH (1999 AD) to the position of Grand Mufti of the Kingdom and Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars, succeeding Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Baz, may God have mercy on him.</p><p style=";text-align:left;direction:ltr"></p>
